Book Summary: Allied forces spent much time planning and preparing for the occupation of the axis countries, obtaining practical experience in North Africa, Sicily and France as they pressed on toward Berlin. Unity of command and unity of effort ensured effective government of Germany, helping to make it a vibrant country today, ranking in the top five countries in many metrics. Iraq has not been as fortunate, and has only started to move forward within the last three to four of the almost nine years of occupation there. The United States did not have as much time to plan for the occupation, and unity of command was not achieved in the beginning, causing a lack of security during the beginning of the occupation. We can take some lessons from these operations and apply them to the future. While we cannot yet know the outcome of Iraq, there is hope that it will become our friend in years to come.

Book Summary: Volume Four of The GATT Uruguay Round: A Negotiating History (1986-1994) deals with the final sessions of the world's most ambitious trade negotiations to date and its most significant accomplishment--the creation of the World Trade Organization. It includes the negotiating history of important modifications made during the end-game in 1993 and before the signing ceremony in Marrakesh in April 1994. This period saw major changes in the text and the extent of obligations undertaken in the agriculture and services sectors, as well as the final completion of negotiations in subsidies and countervailing duties, customs valuation, and other sectors. It was also during this last period that the final agreements in trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights (TRIPS) and trade-related invested measures (TRIMS) emerged. Like the earlier volumes in this treatise, Volume Four is useful for its revelation not only of what was resolved but also of what was not resolved. This work belongs in the collection of all concerned with the evolution and continuing development of international trade as a vital component of our contemporary world.

Book Summary: The Mindhunters, Book Six It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s whether you make it out alive. Abby Rhodes learned early on that her gift could do more harm than good, so she stifled her psychic abilities for years. But in an unguarded moment, she touches an object connected to the murders of eleven girls and receives a message—one that could help capture a killer. When a twelfth victim goes missing, she must choose whether to trust her gift and risk everything, or stay silent and possibly jeopardize a young girl’s life. Tech genius and ex-SEAL Andrew “Einstein” MacKenzie doubts the sexy yoga instructor with the soft smile can help find a killer who has eluded authorities for decades, but he’ll do anything to catch a break in this case—until he learns Abby’s methods have no basis in science. He prefers verified data and reliable statistics that fit neatly into his crime-solving algorithms. This woman, both his polar opposite and his perfect match, threatens to upend his carefully controlled world in every way. Twenty years ago, the Charmer began his deadly game, killing beautiful young women to serve his needs. Now, the agents at SSAM are breathing down his neck. Determined to stay in control, he initiates a plan to destroy the agency—unless they find him first. Book Summary: [I]t is the juxtaposition of factual and imaginary detail, real and fictitious characters, each underscored by footnotes or website research, that gives Theodore Cohens work a signature style [that is] quite unique, enjoyable and thoroughly ingenious. Gary Sorkin for Pacific Book Review End Game: Irrational Acts, Tragic Consequences, is Book III of the Antarctic Murders Trilogy. In many ways, it brings to an end three things: the sagas of Captain Roberto Muoz of the Lientur, the hunt for the millions of dollars in U.S. and British cash, negotiable securities, gold coins, and jewelry stolen from the Banco Central de Chile following the Chilean Earthquake of May, 1960, and the murders that followed the robbery. Book I: Frozen in Time: Murder at the Bottom of the World, introduced American scientists Ted Stone and Grant Morris, who, while performing geological and geophysical field work with the assistance of Captain Roberto Muoz of the Chilean auxiliary tug Lientur, were caught up in the hunt for the robbers and the spoils from the robbery, and murder. Unfinished Business: Pursuit of an Antarctic Killer, introduced Captain Mateo Valderas and Lieutenant-Commander Antonio Del Ro of the Chilean Navys Office of Internal Affairs. Initially assigned to solve a murder in Arica, they soon found themselves facing perhaps the most vicious, cunning thief and murderer they ever encountered. The return of American scientists Ted Stone and Grant Morris to Santiago for the purpose of helping personnel of the University of Chile prepare for the 20th Chilean Expedition to the Antarctic, beginning in December 1965, jeopardizes the lives of both scientists. What irrational acts will elicit the tragic consequences that finally bring everything to an end? For the answer, read Book III: End Game: Irrational Acts, Tragic Consequences. Cutting-edge drama and suspense, revealing characters through convincing dialog, provides the Antarctic Murders Trilogy with all the elements of award-winning, best-selling novels.
