Book Summary: #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts explores the wilds of the Grand Tetons—and the mysteries of love, murder, and madness—in this engrossing and passionate novel. The sole survivor of a brutal crime back East, Reece Gilmore settles in Angel’s Fall, Wyoming—temporarily, at least—and takes a job at a local diner. One day, while hiking in the mountains, she peers through her binoculars and sees a couple arguing on the bank of the churning Snake River. And suddenly, the man is on top of the woman, his hands around her throat... By the time Reece reaches a gruff loner named Brody farther down the trail, the pair is gone. And when authorities comb the area where she saw the attack, they find no trace that anyone was even there. No one in Angel’s Fall seems to believe Reece—except Brody, despite his seeming impatience and desire to keep her at arm’s length. When a series of menacing events makes it clear that someone wants her out of the way, Reece must put her trust in Brody—and herself—to find out if there is a killer in Angel’s Fall, before it’s too late.

Book Summary: Edgar Award Finalist: The hunt for a vanished singer leads a detective into the depths of the occult in this “terrific” novel (Stephen King). Big-band frontman Johnny Favorite was singing for the troops when a Luftwaffe fighter squadron strafed the bandstand, killing the crowd and leaving the singer near death. The army returned him to a private hospital in upstate New York, leaving him to live out his days as a vegetable while the world forgot him. But Louis Cyphre never forgets. Cyphre had a contract with the singer, stipulating payment upon Johnny’s death—payment that will be denied as long as Johnny clings to life. When Cyphre hires private investigator Harry Angel to find Johnny at the hospital, Angel learns that the singer has disappeared. It is no ordinary missing-person’s case. Everyone he questions dies soon after, as Angel’s investigation ensnares him in a bizarre tangle of black magic, carnival freaks, and grisly voodoo. When the sinister Louis Cyphre begins appearing in Angel’s dreams, the detective fears for his life, his sanity, and his soul. Falling Angel was the basis for the Alan Parker film Angel Heart, starring Mickey Rourke, Robert De Niro, and Lisa Bonet. This ebook features an illustrated biography of William Hjortsberg including rare photos from the author’s personal collection.

Book Summary: Don’t be fooled by the soft fairy tale beginning of this work, When an Angel Falls, as it offers you another theory on how we all came into existence. Because of the current calamitous state of the world that suffers from an obvious racial divide and a drastic decline in moral fortitude, there is a clear distinction between good and evil. From the Kremlin in Russia that undermined the democracy of the Western world, to the ISIS demonic plague that is wreaking havoc in Levant in the Middle East as well as in selective countries around the world, Satan and his demons appear to be tapping into a series of triangulations, using the social network, spearfishing tactics, and dog whistling conversion methods. This triangulation starts at the point of 2 billion social media followers, followed by a seven-step breakdown to the mark of the beast. This would be explained in detail in the story should you choose to read it. The end of the world’s cycle is fast approaching. This has prompted God to send his three “Top” angels, Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael, the Archangel, who is leading the team, to earth. They are on an assignment for Him! They would literally and physically destroy and rip apart anything that tries to derail their mission to right the wrong on the earth. Stephan Smith, a morally, insightful man of faith, was touched by the angel Gabriel, and he, along with journalist Christopher Rogers, and detective Danny Stone, forms a team in California to shut down a series of wrongdoing perpetrated by white supremacists in an effort to disrupt Satan’s major diabolical plot. Thousands of miles away in London, England, Carla Wallace, a lawyer, who is accompanied by her cousin, Sandra Wright, who has the same moral strength and faith, was touched by the angel Raphael, and they, along with Brent Russell, an MI-5 agent, team up to stop a series of events designed to change the world as we know it. Dunstan Archer, who worked as an elderly caretaker in Cleburne County, Alabama, was incarnated as Andrealphus, one of Lucifer’s fallen angels. After Lucifer and his selective angels took up residence on the earth, Andrealphus soon realized that he was caught up in the politics and evil conspiracies of the day. Once he realized that he made a mistake, he decided to flee with hopes of getting back into God’s good graces. He and both of his friends, Dr. Angela Romano and Julian Bates, took an adventurous trip to the Great Angel Falls of South America, Venezuela in order to assist Sam Watson his mentor, who was incarnated by Gabriel. Every effort had to be made to defuse the dark angel’s plot. Filled with riveting, heart-stopping twists and turns, this tale is an eye-opener and a page-turner!

Book Summary: Four girls with the power to control the elements must come together to save the world from a terrible evil in this “series opener [that] has it all” (Kirkus Reviews). Years ago, everything changed. Phantoms, massive beasts of nightmare, began terrorizing the world. At the death of one Effigy, another is chosen, pulled from her normal life into the never-ending battle. When Maia unexpectedly becomes the next Fire Effigy, she resists her new calling. A quiet girl with few friends and almost no family, she was much happier to admire the Effigies from afar. Never did she imagine having to master her ability to control fire, to protect innocent citizens from the Phantoms, or to try bringing together the other three Effigies. But with the arrival of the mysterious Saul—a man who seems to be able to control the Phantoms using the same cosmic power previously only granted to four girls at a time—Maia and the other Effigies must learn to work together in a world where their celebrity status is more important than their heroism. But the secrets Saul has, and the power he possesses, might be more than even they can handle…

But what if, for once, the predictions are right, and the apocalypse really is due to arrive next Saturday, just after tea? You could spend the time left drowning your sorrows, giving away all your possessions in preparation for the rapture, or laughing it off as (hopefully) just another hoax. Or you could just try to do something about it. It's a predicament that Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon now finds themselves in. They've been living amongst Earth's mortals since The Beginning and, truth be told, have grown rather fond of the lifestyle and, in all honesty, are not actually looking forward to the coming Apocalypse. And then there's the small matter that someone appears to have misplaced the Antichrist . . .

Book Summary: The story is unfortunately based on true events. I went through school with Collette but afterwards, we soon lost contact but kept meeting by chance from time to time over the passing years. Around 12 years later we met for what seems the final time. I was totally amazed and shocked with how she had fallen from starting work with such a highly respectable job as a trainee beauty consultant to falling into such depths of sadness, fear and depravity. This is her story, not mine. At School, Collette was so sweet, very innocent and so naive sexually and i will go through that briefly. She was fun to be with and so very well-liked by everyone. She was bright and intelligent, she had the whole world at her pretty feet. She had one slight flaw it seems that would slowly develop and finally engulf her after her 17th birthday, she developed a serious medical condition called 'Crazy' or as some would put it, 'off her freaking rocker!' She slowly became a changed person, from sweet and innocent to totally, well and truly crazy! to the point of raving insanity. From such a sweet and innocent slowly to the very pits of depravity and hell! How did this happen? Read her story. Due to the story-line and nature of this book, some people may think that some passages are of a highly erotic nature. It wasn't set out to be that way but it was totally unavoidable.

In Search of the Swan Maiden

Book Summary: In her compendious study, [of the folktale of the runaway wife] Leavy argues that the contradictory claims of nature and culture are embodied in the legendary figure of the swan maiden, a woman torn between the human and bestial worlds. --The New York Times Book Review This is a study of the meaning of gender as framed by the swan maiden tale, a story found in the folklore of virtually every culture. The swan maiden is a supernatural woman forced to marry, keep house, and bear children for a mortal man who holds the key to her imprisonment. When she manages to regain this key, she escapes to the otherworld, never to return. These tales have most often been interpreted as depicting exogamous marriages, describing the girl from another tribe trapped in a world where she will always be the outsider. Barbara Fass Leavy believes that, in the societies in which the tale and its variants endured, woman was the other--the outsider trapped in a society that could never be her own. Leavy shows how the tale, though rarely explicitly recognized, is frequently replayed in modern literature. Beautifully written, this book reveals the myriad ways in which the folktales of a society reflect its cultural values, and particularly how folktales are allegories of gender relations. It will interest anyone involved in literary, gender, and cultural studies.

Book Summary: Introduced by Edwin Morgan. In this haunting poem from the latter part of the nineteenth century, Scots-born writer James Thomson anticipated the modern age’s nightmare vision of the city as a place of loneliness, alienation and spiritual despair. In contrast to the late Victorian confidence all around him, Thomson dared to face the possibility that the universe was utterly indifferent to human affairs. The strange and dark images in The City of Dreadful Night have become a landmark of modern literature, for the tomb-like streets and empty squares in this memorable poem preceded T.S Eliot’s The Waste Land, and the darker visions of expressionism and surrealism by over forty-five years. Published in instalments in 1874 and then in book form in 1880, The City of Dreadful Night has long been unavailable as a complete text. This exciting new edition is introduced and annotated by Edwin Morgan, long an admirer of Thomson’s work, and a leading modern poet in his own right.
