Book Summary: *#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER *Winner, Kobo Emerging Writer Prize Nonfiction *Winner, Indigenous Voices Awards *Winner, High Plains Book Awards *Finalist, CBC Canada Reads *A Globe and Mail Book of the Year *An Indigo Book of the Year *A CBC Best Canadian Nonfiction Book of the Year In this extraordinary and inspiring debut memoir, Jesse Thistle, once a high school dropout and now a rising Indigenous scholar, chronicles his life on the streets and how he overcame trauma and addiction to discover the truth about who he is. If I can just make it to the next minute...then I might have a chance to live; I might have a chance to be something more than just a struggling crackhead. From the Ashes is a remarkable memoir about hope and resilience, and a revelatory look into the life of a Métis-Cree man who refused to give up. Abandoned by his parents as a toddler, Jesse Thistle briefly found himself in the foster-care system with his two brothers, cut off from all they had known. Eventually the children landed in the home of their paternal grandparents, whose tough-love attitudes quickly resulted in conflicts. Throughout it all, the ghost of Jesse’s drug-addicted father haunted the halls of the house and the memories of every family member. Struggling with all that had happened, Jesse succumbed to a self-destructive cycle of drug and alcohol addiction and petty crime, spending more than a decade on and off the streets, often homeless. Finally, he realized he would die unless he turned his life around. In this heartwarming and heart-wrenching memoir, Jesse Thistle writes honestly and fearlessly about his painful past, the abuse he endured, and how he uncovered the truth about his parents. Through sheer perseverance and education—and newfound love—he found his way back into the circle of his Indigenous culture and family. An eloquent exploration of the impact of prejudice and racism, From the Ashes is, in the end, about how love and support can help us find happiness despite the odds.

Since the initial publication of Outlander fifteen years ago, Diana Gabaldon’s New York Times bestselling saga has won the hearts of readers the world over — and sold more than twelve million books. Now, A Breath of Snow and Ashes continues the extraordinary story of 18th-century Scotsman Jamie Fraser and his 20th-century wife, Claire. The year is 1772, and on the eve of the American Revolution, the long fuse of rebellion has already been lit. Men lie dead in the streets of Boston, and in the backwoods of North Carolina, isolated cabins burn in the forest. With chaos brewing, the governor calls upon Jamie Fraser to unite the backcountry and safeguard the colony for King and Crown. But from his wife Jamie knows that three years hence the shot heard round the world will be fired, and the result will be independence — with those loyal to the King either dead or in exile. And there is also the matter of a tiny clipping from The Wilmington Gazette, dated 1776, which reports Jamie’s death, along with his kin. For once, he hopes, his time-traveling family may be wrong about the future.

Book Summary: Even the Emperor of Sirlende cannot always do as he pleases, but when custom demands he find another bride after the death of his betrothed, a princess he barely knew, Torric Deveras defies his counselors and changes the rules rather than make a loveless marriage. Ashara Millende is the only daughter of a nobleman, but had her inheritance stolen from her by her unscrupulous stepmother. A servant in the house that should have been hers, she dreams of escaping the drudgery of her life and finding someone who will love her for who she truly is. When Torric invites all the marriageable women in his kingdom to a five-day holiday of feasts, tournaments, hunts, and balls so that he might choose an Empress from among them, Ashara never dreams that she can attend, much less catch his eye and win his heart. Then a woman with hidden secrets appears who will give Ashara the chance to win her heart's desire — if only she is bold enough to take the first step. Ashes of Roses sets the timeless story of Cinderella in the world of the Latter Kingdoms, weaving a spellbinding tale of royal intrigue, familial deceit, and the magic of love. Author’s Note: While this is the fourth book in this series, all Tales of the Latter Kingdoms novels are written as standalone romances and can be read in any order.

So realistic that I felt like I was there. Such a great story and setting. Another magnificent addition to this series. Tracy Cooper Posey never lets her fans down. Sch an amazing read. Once I started reading I could not stop till I was finished. This was one of the greatest books yet, as far as this grand family goes. I was surprised how much this book actually moved me & read it again, as for loving the whole family & gatherings as I do. I really enjoyed & got totally immersed in this one. Oh Tracy what a brilliant read yet again, but for some reason this book got to me. Thank you. This isn't a light and frothy book. None of her books are - they always teach you something and make you think about something in a new light. And that's why I keep reading them - there's always something I didn't expect. Yet another marvelous book by TCP! She has yet to disappoint me. Pride can get you into a lot of trouble. I really liked this book ... Tracy Cooper-Posey once again manages to create an historical romance with substance. I absolutely recommend Ashes of Pride and all of Tracy Cooper-Posey’s books. I love this series and could not wait for this next book and my wait was rewarded. I loved this book I really enjoyed the heck out of this book. The characters are wonderful and interesting. I almost feel as if they're out there waiting for us to meet As usual I found myself totally engrossed in this novel as I was reading it. Tracy's books have this effect upon me. Cooper-Posey has such an engaging way of storytelling, that you feel you are actually sitting in the same room, watching the events unfold The best so far in the continuing saga of the Great Family. Wow! This one had me from the start! I never expected their story to move me so much! An angst filled story that had me crying and cheering and blubbering...almost all at once! This is an amazing story that kept me turning the pages and missing some sleep. I had to find out how the story was going to work out. An awesome, emotion tugging, marvelous book. Tracy Cooper-Posey has written another great one. One of many reasons why I like to read Tracy’s stories, it’s never predictable. A smoldering romance and this is another must-read in the series.

The editors provide a rich historical and philosophical context that will be very useful to both students and scholars of the history of political ideas. Book Summary: 'Unwise Love' is a collection of 30 heartfelt poems about young love, relationships, and self-discovery that comes with these experiences. This book celebrates the unwise years of our lives as opposed to harbouring regrets. Although personal in their narration, the poems are tied together with the universal theme of heartbreak to encourage looking at our past with eyes of compassion, rather than with eyes full of questions. The answers end up finding us, anyway.
