Book Summary: Moments that Matter in the Learning and Development of Children: Reflections from Educators explores the significant moments that unfold for young people in their schooling from the perspectives of teachers and school staff. Educators often reflect on “moments” as being a critical piece of their work with children. They can help make things better for students and produce a difference in lives. They are meaningful for young people, as well as consequential for teachers and school staff as they reflect on the outcomes of their efforts. Yet, as they are difficult to define and capture, these moments often are not studied for the value they offer. This book promotes awareness of these moments, as well as their connected meanings and possibilities. Recognizing the significance of moments extends an opportunity to situate schooling in broader contexts and to understand learners as whole embodied beings, engaged in social interactions, making sense of their surrounding world, and generating transformations in it. When educators reflect deeply about the possibilities connected to the moments they share with children, they recognize the multitude of opportunities that support their learning and development. They become “awake” to some of moments’ promises.

Book Summary: What do we all humans have in common? We are all incorrigible seekers of bliss or joy. Our minds are wired to be happy. At least that is what our modern scientific studies contend. Yet most of us know we are not joyful. In fact, we struggle most of time to be and stay happy. What has gone wrong? I have attempted to answer this question in this book. It has been my own journey to arrive at lasting happiness and joy. It builds on the informational, computational foundation of our universe developed in the first book of this series, Road to Digital Divine. It combines latest science of mind and matter with spirituality, putting forth a new concept of our self, the quantum self rooted in the informational nature of our being. Most of us are familiar with our physical self that we see in the mirror. It, however, does not define us completely. What is critical for us to know is our informational self. Knowing the true nature of this self and acting accordingly is essential for us humans to achieve good emotional health and realize lasting joy in our lives. In fact, not knowing or ignoring the messages from this essential nature of our self is the leading reason for suffering in our human society. I paint this self as a tale of three minds: emotional, rational, and cosmic. The three minds computationally synchronized lead to the birth of informational self. This self is a computationally astute structure. It computes using two modes of computation. Each of these modes lead to two extreme personalities. One, binary computation, which leads to a nature of self that courts “I, me, and mine” tendencies. I have called this as our binary self. And the other, quantum computation, which leads to a nature of self with “us, we, and ours” tendencies. I call this as our quantum self. Both these nature of self are quite familiar in today’s society. The binary information processing leads to egoic entity, which is present in most of us. It dominates today’s human society. It is responsible for incredible progress that humans have made as a surviving species, but it is also responsible for most of the sufferings that modern humans face today. The quantum self has saintlike nature. It feels love, empathy, and oneness with others. It is truthful and always stays in the company of divinity. It is responsible for widespread altruism in nature and in humans. With two selves of very different nature in one body, modern humans have learned the meaning of the word “suffering.” Which self will win? Which is our true self? Understanding of this fact is not trivial. In fact, it is nothing short of enlightenment as I explain how the understanding of our true self can lead one on to this path. It can make a profound change in one’s perspective. The joy pouring from deep within is at the root of this reality.

Excerpt: The Reply of the Bishop of Sarum to the Letter above written, which Dr. Cole, contrary to even dealing, had given out and sent abroad, not to the said Bishop to whom he wrote it, but primly and secretly unto certain of his own friends. THERE came to my hands of late, by chance, a scroll set forth in short broken sentences, containing an answer to the second letters that I had sent unto you before, which as by certain familiar phrases, by the date, by the subscription of your own name, and by other tokens, appeared to me to be yours; so, by the using and ordering of the same, I had some cause to think it should not be yours, and especially for that being, as it appeared, written unto me, it was sent privily abroad unto others, and not to me. For I thought that you, being a man of this age and credit, would not have been ashamed of your own writings, or would have concealed them from him to whom you had directed them, or have sought for a false light to set forth your matters in, as merchants sometimes use to do, the better to utter their sorry wares. Moreover, I saw that your words throughout were heaped up with taunts and scorns, and were somewhat too much stained with choler to have proceeded from a sober grave man, as I ever took you to be. Thus being uncertain of the truth herein, after I had sent oftentimes to you, to know whether you would avouch it for your own or no, and could never get word from you, by reason that you shifted yourself, and would not be found, I thought it good to stay myself from answering, until I might get certain knowledge of the author. Book Summary: What would it take to make you happy? A fulfilling career, a big bank account, or the perfect mate? What if it didn't take anything to make you happy? What if you could experience happiness from the inside out -- no matter what's going on in your life? In Happy for No Reason: 7 Steps to Being Happy from the Inside Out, transformational expert Marci Shimoff offers a breakthrough approach to being happy, one that doesn't depend on achievements, goals, money, relationships, or anything else "out there." Most books on happiness tell you to find the things that make you happy and do more of them. Although there's nothing wrong with that, it won't bring you the kind of deep and lasting happiness most people long for -- the kind you'll never lose, no matter what happens in your life. Based on cutting-edge research and knowledge from the world's leading experts in the fields of positive psychology and neurophysiology, plus interviews with 100 truly happy people, this life-changing book provides a powerful, proven 7-step program that will enable you to be happier right now -- no matter where you start. Studies show that each of us has a "happiness setpoint" -- a fixed range of happiness we tend to return to throughout our life -- that's approximately 50 percent genetic and 50 percent learned. In the same way you'd crank up the thermostat to get comfortable on a chilly day, you can actually raise your happiness set-point! The holistic 7-step program at the heart of Happy for No Reason encompasses Happiness Habits for all areas of life: personal power, mind, heart, body, soul, purpose, and relationships. In these pages you'll discover moving and remarkable first-person stories of people who have applied these steps to their own lives and have become Happy for No Reason. You'll read phenomenal tales from a former drug dealer turned minister, a hit filmmaker, and a famous actress who escaped a "family curse," as well as stories from doctors, mothers, teachers, and business executives. You'll learn practical strategies that will help you experience happiness from the inside out. You don't have to have happy genes, win the lottery, or lose twenty pounds. By the time you finish this book, you will know how to experience sustained happiness for the rest of your life.
